It’s that time of the year when one wakes up to the sound of leftover fireworks. The air is thick with smoke, and the wind is tranquil and cool. The familiar crow of the neighbor’s rooster is heard, and one realizes that it isn’t just another day; it’s the first day of a new year, a new chapter in one’s life story.
I know this sound a bit cheesy, but as I was reflecting on the past year, I realized that I didn’t have something to look back on. In one of my really low points in 2010, I burned all of my journals. It wasn’t a hasty decision, but I thought my life would completely turn around after that. WRONG. Heaps of emotional clutter continued to pile up until I knew that I just had to surrender. Of course, I didn’t go through the whole burning thing again, but I wanted to experience significant change in my life, and I want it to happen this year… : )
But enough with the drama, it’s a new start, a new chance. It’s 2011, everybody! Let’s make it epic. ; )
I had my last dessert binge during the last 15 minutes of 2010. Wahaha. It was my ultimate favorite sweet treat: undercooked pancakes with vanilla ice cream!!! I may make the worst shaped pancakes in the world (not kidding!), but the creaminess and texture of these underdone pancakes makes me forget about that! : D
I also mustered enough resolve to lose some unwanted (and unneeded) weight this year. Also, I signed up for an annual membership in Fitness First. I really do not have any excuse to not work out now!
I also gathered a lot of notebooks to “document” my life in. I have a prayer journal, a fitness journal, a One Line A Day journal, and a good ‘ole personal journal. Oh! And a really cute animal-themed planner to make my life more organized, too. : p I thought that I needed some good measure of my personal progress, so hope these notebooks help me in my pursuit!
Lastly, an affectionate nudge from my boyfriend Mico to keep doing the things I love. He gifted me with a beautiful watercolor set for Christmas. It’s so pretty and professional-looking that I don’t want to touch it!!!
I like painting whenever I have free time, but a bad habit of mine is that I usually leave things unfinished, mostly books and drawings (that’s why I seldom have anything to show). : ( But this year, one of my goals to make significantly more art, may it be in the form of writing, food, or paintings/drawings/design. Count on it! : )
I guess that these are my goals for the meantime, a bit of personal growth on different levels. I know that I will be making a few more along the way, but for now, baby steps! : ) If there is a will, there is a way. One of the greatest lessons I learned in 2010 came in the form of an email containing the 90/10 principle of Stephen Covey:
10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react.
It only takes willpower to give ourselves permission to make the experience.
I love how 2011 is unfolding quite wonderfully with good thoughts. I’ve been reading a few blogs, and I like how everyone has a very positive outlook on the new year. It definitely is a new chance for everybody. So let’s make it a great one! : )
With this, I leave you all with this quote from J.K. Rowling. ; )
