Where do I even begin??! This day has been such a blast that I’ve been extra chipper and hyper the whole day…or maybe it’s because of the sugar-concentrated drinks I’ve been consuming! ; ) Nevertheless, it’s been a reeeeaaally AWESOME and AMAZING day! Praise God!
I kinda overslept this morning (boohoo, wasn’t able to hit the gym!) because I got up at 5 a.m. yesterday. : | Anyways, what was supposed to be a 6 a.m. wake-up-call turned into a 9 a.m. one because I kept on snoozing my alarm clock hehehe. : p So I woke up and had monggo and coffee for breakfast. Arvy was also awake already so I bugged/cuddled him a bit before getting ready for my Creative Writing workshop at 1 p.m. My baby cousins study at The Fort, so I asked my Tito if I could ride with them, and if he could drop me off at the MRT station since it can take me to Ortigas in less than 15 minutes! I love the MRT…except when it’s jam-packed!!!
So we were in the car heading to my cousins’ school when Mico texted that he was about to leave the office (also in The Fort) because he wasn’t feeling well. : ( I told him that I was in the area since we were dropping off my cousins, and he told me that he wanted to take me to Ortigas! Despite my fervent refusal, he was really adamant about his decision. I also very much wanted to see him today because it’s our 27th monthsary (excuse the cheese), so I finally agreed and met up with him in Serendra. Wheee I was soooo happy to see him! ❤ We took off and headed to the school where I was going to hold my workshop. I was such a giddy girl because the excitement was building up! It’s my first day as “Teacher Mikka”! : )
Mico dropped me off and I met up with Isa, who was also in the school for the Learning Library. She gave me a tour of the place and I got soooo excited! So many kids! Small kids, big kids, tall kids, chubby kids (heee). : ) I even saw one who resembled Russell in Up! SUPER GIGIL! But I knew he wasn’t going to be in my class since I was to teach 9 to 11 year olds. : ( I was able to chat with him a bit about Beyblades though since Arvy is totally addicted to them! He was really friendly and I fought the urge to pinch his cheeks. : p
And so, the clock struck 1 and the moment of truth begun! The class exceeded my expectations because I also had a few teenagers joining in! Though my curriculum was built for pre-teens, I knew I had to adjust on the spot. One of the challenges I also faced today was using my computer to show my presentation; it totally slipped my mind that MACs have a different adapter for the LCD projector, but lucky for me, the kids were really great and they were able to adjust to my tiny screen.
CAN I JUST SAY HOW GREAT MY KIDS ARE?!?!?! Despite their diverse mix, they were SUPERB. I was blown away!!! They are all intelligent and well-read. Easy to work with too! They are very participative and give really good feedback. : )
In my class you will find 9-year-olds who have seen ALL The Godfather Movies, know sooo much about The Justice League, love Battlestar Galactica, read Moby Dick, know well of Hannibal Lecter, and other amazing qualities you wouldn’t expect of kids their age! They are all very talented and they write soooo well! I had my mum read a few of their works, and she said that their writing could pass as high school level! I feel so blessed to be teaching a bunch of bright, witty, and oh-so-lovable children. : ) It’s such a joy to be around these wonderful group of kids!
After my class, I chatted with some of the parents then met up with Isa for a little while before I left. : ) I had so much to share about my first day as Teacher Mikka that it was hard to contain! I headed off to Megamall for a little food trip + reading time: Red Mango’s Waffles and Blueberry Yogurt. Hihi. They were delicious! : )
The only photo in this post! Haha! My afternoon snack/reward for the day: Red Mango Heart-Shaped Banana-Almond Waffles with Blueberry Yogurt, Cream Cheese, Peaches, Kiwi, and Chocolate Chips! Yuuuummmmmyyyy!!!
After that, I hopped on the MRT and went home. When I got to the house, I did my usual routine of, again, bugging/cuddling Arvy, and took a look at my kids’ works. I’m so proud of them. : )

It’s funny how this teaching gig is growing to become something I really love. I can say this even if it’s only my first day. I feel really giddy when they call me Teacher Mikka, and I just feel so happy to be around kids. Can this be God’s will for me after all? Hmmm, I have to wait and see! But for Day 1, I can truly say that it has been a very rewarding experience. : ) I’m falling in love with it so much that I really cannot wait for our second session! : )
